The man's words were kind, and they helped calm her, even though she wasn't really upset. She couldn't believe that he was so nice that she felt like hugging him. Often times she would feel that way about people, but never worked up the nerve to hug them because she hardly even knew them. Camille always got emotionally involved with someone even if she didn't know them all that well.
The excitement about getting further into the mine had merely bubbled down to the sparkle in her eyes and glowing expression, but there was no telling if it would build back up to the squeaking or not.
"So...we're getting down the old-fashioned way?" she asked, just making sure. Sometimes she was easily confused, or didn't understand something completely and would make some kind of mistake. If they were going to get to the next level the way they had before the ladders, Camille was ready, and she neared the hole in the floor to indicate that she was.

Once things were bunched up Eli looked at Camille smiling and nodding. "Yep, back to the old fashioned way." He said grabbing the lantern and setting it down next to the hole and kneeling down. He pulled their bags and hammers down near it, preparing to hand everything down to her. "I will be coming down with you so I can show you how to fasten the ladder at the bottom. Sound good?" He asked, shaking few strands of his hair out of his face before taking Camille's hand. He knew that he didn't have to help her down, but he wanted to. He could tell that he was excited because of the way her eyes sparkled, and a full grin spread on his face before he closed his eyes dramatically putting his free hand on his chest.
"Lady Camille, are you ready to go down into the black abyss and fasten the bottom so that we may gain access to the next floor with out hoisting about?" he said dramatically in an old accent, but his expression cracked even further with a chuckle that seeped from him. He was pretty sure he did that just because her happiness had stirred something inside of him...

Eli had her hand in his, his words flowing in the old accent. His voice and look was dramatic, something that could be seen at a theatre while enjoying the performance of a play. The whole situation was just plain silly, but the woman liked it nonetheless.
Before her exterior completely cracked, Camille replied with a small curtsey, "Sir Eli, I am indeed ready to venture into the black abyss." Changing her expression into one of confidence and braveness, she added, "Most fair maidens such as myself would appear to be frightened, but not I. Let us go, most noble companion." The accent she used was nearly the same as the one he had used. Their silliness finally caused the woman to laugh lightly, shaking her head. The man was sometimes just so random...first his mooing, and then this. She sure never got bored when she was around him.
Her laughs soon faded and a bright smile remained on her face, eyes sparkling even more than they had been, if that was even possible. Around certain people, she would have felt odd acting so silly, but it didn't seem to matter around him, even if she didn't know him all that well. They were getting somewhere...nearer to a good friendship, Camille supposed.
The man helped her down onto the next floor before handing her down the items they would need. Eli slid down easily, making a soft umph when his feet hit the rough ground. The woman was attentive when he showed her how to fasten the bottom of the ladder.

((OOOOOOOH I know what they should do now.))
Once he was done fastening the ladder to the bottom he stood and looked over at Camille continuing to smile. Even if he didn't use the old English accent again, he decided that would be fine left alone for the time being. "You got it?" he asked her raising his eyebrow as he continued to smile. As she observed it he took the time to start getting the supplies together.
It didn't take too long, so wanting to continue to work he was sitting down to get ready too start working again. And thats when it happened. He hadn't even realized until this moment that he was getting hungry. His eye twitched as his stomach started to growel... Had it echoed through the mine even? He sat there, his reach for the hammer had stopped and he stood heading over to his bag. His eyes were rather wide as he looked at Camille. "We... skipped lunch... didn't we..." He said, his stomach growling again.

After the man asked if she got it, the woman gave a firm nod, a smile appearing at the same time. Just as Eli sat down to work, she realized that her stomach was completely empty. If it growled, she was sure it would echo throughout the room...
A stomach growled, and it seemed to echo. It was Eli's, and Camille snickered lightly. He was obviously as hungry as she was, or moreso.
"We...skipped lunch...didn't we..." The man looked mortified that he had skipped a meal, and he was headed toward his bag with haste.
Biting back any more snickering, the woman replied, "Yes, I guess we did, didn't we?" She got to her own bag and retrieved a few sandwiches. She hadn't known exactly how many Eli would want, but judging by how much he ate when she had dinner at his place...it could be quite a bit. It was hard to tell. Eli got some of the stuff he brought out and the two went over to the nearest wall and sat down, leaning against it as they had done the first day they met in the mine. "How many sandwiches?" Camille asked, holding a few up.

Eli's eyes widened. He never really got a meal when he was down in the mine, only green apples and the waters he always had packed. Camille actually having sandwiches made him extremely overjoyed. He smiled in her direction, even if his stomach was rather empty. "Hmn," He hummed, looking at the sandwiches. "The ones you don't eat." He said with a chuckle. He then pulled out two waters from his bag, setting them down before pulling out a handful of apples and setting them down on his bag. He handed Camille one, and started to polish the one that he was going to have with his shirt as he looked up at the hole that they had come down from.
"This is probably the funnest time that I have been in a mine. At least sense my dad and I used to go." He said, thinking about how his father taught him to mine. It was funny, because his father wasn't really of happy sorts until he was off mining. It was kind of like a short vacation when they would go. And the even funnier part of that was that mining was the reason why him and his father were so close when he was little.

Camille set the apple in her lap after thanking him, and took two sandwiches, giving Eli the rest of them. She was hungrier than usual for some reason...had she skipped breakfast? She couldn't exactly remember now, but it didn't matter all that much. Once she had separated the sandwiches, she polished her own apple with her shirt before biting into it. The fruit was juicy and fresh, making her sigh. It was always nice to have good food while mining, and the apple was quite refreshing.
"This is probably the funnest time that I have been in a mine. At least sense my dad and I used to go."
The woman, chewing lightly on her food, turned her gaze to the man. Once she swallowed, she said with a small smile, "I'm glad you're having fun. At least I'm not completely boring, like some people think. This has been the funnest time I have ever had while mining because I used to go a lot by myself. You're a funny guy." She chuckled a bit after saying that, but it was true. "It's nice that you used to mine with your dad. It sounds like you really enjoyed it. Does he enjoy mining as much as you do?"

He let the apple stay wrapped up in a fold of his shirt as he started to eat one of the sandwiches. He ate it with a smile on his face, the light conversation that they had filled the rather empty feeling that he would have had if her were working on his own. "My dad loves to mine, but its not his job like it is my own. He thrived in the mine, yet he had a job that was his main priority. So you could say that he enjoyed it as much as I did, but he still had other things to take care of in life." Eli chuckled, taking another bite of the sandwich. Once he swallowed it he continued. "But if he didn't enjoy it and didn't take me with him, I doubt that I would be here today." He then quickly devoured the rest of the sandwich before picking up another.
His gaze trailed over to the woman again and he raised and eyebrow. "Anyways, why the heck would someone think that you are boring." He said, his hand planted on his knees, elbows bent as he leaned in her direction, a mock glare forming on his face. "I don't understand how people could think that you are boring."

Listening to someone talk about their family was nice; it was as if she was hearing about a little piece of Eli himself. It wasn't everyday that people talked about their family. The woman found it nice to hear about Eli's father taking a liking to mining. Her own father had never been interested in any particular activity...except maybe collecting money.
"It's great that he enjoyed it that much, and I'm sure glad he did take you with him. If he didn't, then I would most likely be here alone and making minimal progress."
She set the half-eaten apple down on her lap and opened up the wrapping on a sandwich, taking a few large bits out of it because she was so hungry still. Hoping she didn't look like she had bad manners, she turned her head briefly until her cheeks didn't look like chipmunk cheeks anymore.
"Anyways, why the heck would someone think that you are boring. I don't understand how people could think that you are boring."
Her eyes were trained on him once again, a smile peeking out because of his mock glare. Raising an eyebrow, she shrugged. "Sometimes I'm really quiet. It just depends on who I'm with and how comfortable I feel. Some people think I'm too nice, and that makes for a boring conversation...mainly because they don't want to talk to someone so nice." Again, she shrugged. "Different people have different opinions on who is fun and who isn't, I guess."

Eli straightened out his posture, mock glare and suspicion disappearing from his face as she explained. He took the time to take a drink of his water, taking the bottle and opening it, gulping down about half of it as he listened to Camille. Once about half of the bottle was drank her stopped, whipping away some water that dribbled from the corner of his mouth with his arm, she was done telling him why... He didn't like her reasoning. His eyebrows were raised, and his face no longer held the smile he had before. In fact his expression was changing to one that could be taken as confusion, also slightly angry.
He looked away from her, taking a bite of the apple that had been tucked away on his shirt. "You aren't the boring one, they are." He said, still seeming to be a little angry as he looked around in front of him. "If they can't even take the time to try and get to know your, or open up your personality, then that is their problem. Also its not possible to be too nice, if people have you thinking that then they are even worse then just being boring, they also must be nut jobs then. I have been thinking that you are nice, but the conversations that we have are interesting and not dull. You give great input," He chuckled, a smirk popping up on his face. "I find at least, to be better then my sisters. But we are siblings. It all depends on what is being talked about. Apparently the people who do find you dull and boring are not very good at creating conversation, because I haven't found a problem with yours yet." He said, before continuing to eat his apple with a sigh. He found people to be rather cruel at times.

At first, she hadn't liked that his expression was changing. She didn't like it very much when he seemed angry, she found out. Even though he was obviously irritated, he was still nice to her. His words made her smile, although he still didn't look so happy. Eventually, once he started mentioning his sister, the man started to smirk, which lifted her spirits a bit.
The words left her with a warm feeling in her chest, but she wasn't sure exactly what it was. All she knew was that it was a great feeling, and she was very happy, and flattered at the same time. People didn't usually compliment her, maybe because not many people talked to her on a whim and she didn't have many friends. Lately, she hadn't been around anyone she really knew all that well, so who was to compliment her? Camille didn't need complimented, but she did like it when she was. It made her feel somewhat important in the large scheme of life.
When he was done speaking, the woman could hardly even look at him. She was afraid her strange and unknown emotion would leak out and somehow make her embarrassed. It was odd...she didn't even know what it was, so how was he to know?
She ate a bit more of her sandwich, a smile occassionally tugging at the corners of her mouth. Finally, she said, "Thanks, Eli." She wasn't sure what else to say to him after all that. "You're really nice to me...not a lot of people used to be when I was in school." She didn't mention that was because they all labeled her as a snob just because she was rich. It's not like she even wanted to be. "Anyways, Raine seems like an interesting person. I haven't gotten to talk to her all that much, though."
The warm feeling forgotten, the brunette finally looked at him and smiled genuinely. It was always nice to meet people like Eli that didn't judge her by her wealth or looks and got to know her for who she was.

Eli smiled in the girls direction when she started to talk about how he was being nice to her. "Honesly its no big deal, people who have problems with people like you kinda piss me off. And school is one of those situations that can be a bad way to find friendships for some people. School is mainly shallow, a lot of this world is. But thats why its nice to be down in the mine, isn't it?" He said, hand reaching over as he gently patted the top of her head with a smile. Her comment about Raine made a laugh escape him before her removed his hand and quickly snagged a few bites of more to eat.
"Raine is very interesting... compared to a lot of girls out their. The reason why I don't really always like talking to her is because I am like... the person she lectures, all the time. She is a Feminist, yet hates any sort of open sexism. She can be a ball buster, because she will challenge almost any man if they have any kind of ego. But she means well deep down. And that is the side that isn't seen all that much." He said, and then he realized what he said. His face twitched. "Please don't tell her I said that!" He said looking at Camille as if he was going to cry. "She will kill me..." He suddenly smirked looking off to the side. "Don't tell her that I really think she is a softy on the inside." His face twitched again. "Man, if she was here right now he would be dead." He said before starting to eat some more.
"But I think she likes you!" He threw in, "I think she likes you a lot because you seem like another strong female role." He said nodding a few times looking over at Camille. He met her genuine smile and returned it before continuing to eat the last sandwich he had in front of him.

Camille made a small humming noise when Eli was talking about the mine. "Being in the mine is like being at home," she murmured, just resting her head against the wall behind her and closing her eyes for a moment. After sighing, her orbs snapped back open and she ate some more, actually starting to eat fast because she wanted to get back to making ladders and didn't want to make them lag behind.
Once Eli had talked about his sister, he suddenly added, "Please don't tell her I said that!" She laughed at his expression, shaking her head.
"I'm going to tattle on you..." she teased, raising her eyebrows the smile still played across her face. After a second, she announced, "But I have reconsidered and decided I wouldn't...only because you are helping me get further into the mine."
The brunette was glad to hear that he thought Raine liked her. She definitely wanted to get to know the woman better. It was interesting to hear herself be called a "strong female role."
"I'm really glad you think she likes me. I like her, she seems pretty cool." Pausing, she shot a glance in the man's direction. "A strong female role?" she questioned briefly with a small laugh. "That's right...girls aren't supposed to be the 'mining type.'" She rolled her bright blue eyes with a chuckle. "Gender stereotyping. Happens all the time."
Once she said that, she finished her lunch quickly because it seemed as if Eli was almost done. She definitely didn't want to make him wait for her, although he would probably just start working on the ladder without her. Either way, she finished and stood up, looking back at her friend.
With a tilt of her head, she asked, "Ready to get back to work?"

"That's right...girls aren't supposed to be the 'mining type. Gender stereotyping. Happens all the time."
As she rolled her eyes he chuckled. "Oh you and Raine should get along just fine." He said rolling his own, finishing off the sandwich. He was filled up, almost stuffed, so he started to eat his green apple, finishing it off as the sour juices energized him like they normally would. Once done with the apple he finished off his water. When the female was finished, standing and looking back at him asking if he was ready he nodded. Standing and stuffing the trash in his bag, he would dump it in the proper place later.
"Yeah, lets get back to work." he said, smiling at her before he went over to the scraps of wood they would be using. He crossed his legs, cracking his fingers and stretching. He waited for the female to join him before he put a hand on his stomach and pat it. "Ahhh, I am stuffed... Thank you for the sandwiches!" He added with a sigh.

Camille joined Eli and sat down at the opposite end of the would-be ladder. She bounced a few times, swinging her head back and forth. At times, she made random movements if she was in a light mood...and those were some of those movements.
"You're welcome!" she chimed, replying to Eli for thanking her. "And thank you for the fruit. It was quite refreshing." The last sentence had been said in a very proper voice.
The two worked on the ladder together, silent for the most part. At times they would made tiny comments on the work or something about the mine. Eventually, they finished the ladder. The lack of conversation had helped them to work faster, and Camille had quickly caught on to making the ladders.
Just as they finished, the woman looked up. "Wow, that was fast. I'm getting better at this." Wiggling her eyebrows, she smiled.
